South Wales Police

South Wales Police covers an area of around 812 square miles, which although only representing 10% of the geographical area of Wales, is the home to 1,225,900 people, around 42% of the country’s whole population.

The two Welsh cities of Cardiff and Swansea both are situated within the force area and continue to expand and provide their own policing challenges.

The capital city Cardiff, is the youngest European city and is recognised as one of the fastest growing, vibrant and cosmopolitan.

Swansea is a maritime city with a rich and varied history with many prime attractions including shopping centres, museums, art galleries, leisure attractions as well as miles of sea front beaches and the Gower peninsula.

The north of the force area is home to the famous South Wales valleys – historically the base of heavy industry in South Wales. The past two decades have seen major changes in which all but one deep mine colliery has been lost and the area undergone major re-structuring. This result has been social change and an increasingly transient working population.

Major investment has been secured across the area in recent years, centred primarily on the high technology, service and tourism industries.

The area covered by South Wales Police attracts more than four million tourists every year, with the Gower Peninsula, Porthcawl and Barry being popular destinations.
South Wales Police is proud of the role it plays in providing a safe and stable environment where people can live, work and visit with security, dignity and pride. We are proactively and tirelessly working towards the elimination of discrimination, promoting equal opportunities for all and developing harmonious relations between all people, regardless of visible or non-visible difference. Our dedication to this end is absolute.

South Wales Police is committed to all strands of diversity and promoting human rights and this will underpin every aspect of our business. Simply put, the service, which is capable of recognising and respecting diversity within our communities, can only be achieved by a workforce operating in an environment where each staff member feels valued, supported and dealt with equitably in every aspect of their working life.

We understand that equality and diversity is not the sole responsibility of senior officers and managers, but that each of us has an obligation to lead and to be a role model to those around us. We appreciate that if the Force is to effect change, then equality and diversity must become the responsibility of every member of staff, regardless of rank, role, length of service, or any other aspect of diversity.

Valuing equality and diversity is fundamental to achieving the frame work that promotes excellence in customer satisfaction, thereby ensuring an A* rating as a Force. A* is about total policing – not part community, part crime but, a Force that does it all. A Force that is committed to a problem orientated, intelligence led style of service delivery, providing a wide range of services to all our diverse communities.

We welcome applications from ALL sections of the community who are interested in embarking on a career with South Wales Police, either as uniformed Police Officers, Special Constables, PCSO’s or Police Staff.
We are committed to providing equality of opportunity and in doing so support and provide positive action to encourage applications from members of those groups that are currently under-represented.
